ENVIRONMENT

Less waste.
More considered choices.

Every ingredient and packaging material has a job to do. Our approach is to use them carefully, protect the food we make and manage what remains responsibly.

PACKAGING THAT WORKS

Protect the product. Consider the whole journey.

A lighter pack is only useful if it still protects the food inside. We consider product safety, shelf life, usability and distribution before agreeing a packaging format.

The right protection

Material and barrier requirements depend on the recipe, storage conditions and intended shelf life. Product protection remains central when we discuss alternatives.

The right amount

Portion size, pack dimensions and case configuration influence material use and handling. We can explore formats that suit how your customers buy, prepare and use the product.

The right market fit

Recycling routes and labelling requirements differ between markets. We review proposed packaging claims against the relevant material information and destination requirements.

PPWR · EU PACKAGING

Packaging for the EU market.

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Regulation (EU) 2025/40, began applying on 12 August 2026. It introduces phased requirements for packaging placed on the EU market, including packaging used for imported food and beverages.

For your project, we can work with you and our packaging suppliers to review the relevant materials, documentation and next steps for the selected pack.

Further labelling, recyclability and recycled-content requirements take effect in later phases. Specific obligations and transition dates vary by packaging type.

European Commission PPWR overview
  • Food-contact materialsReview the material structure and supplier information, including the PFAS restrictions that apply to food-contact packaging.
  • Design and material useConsider product protection, shelf life, pack weight and dimensions together when reviewing material reduction and recyclability.
  • Labelling and future requirementsPlan for the relevant labelling, recycled-content and recyclability obligations as they take effect, including the requirements for your pack type.
  • Documentation and responsibilitiesIdentify the technical documentation and declarations needed for the pack, and agree the roles of the manufacturer, importer and other supply-chain partners.

INSIDE OUR OPERATIONS

Separate carefully.
Recover what we can.

Our waste-management procedures distinguish recyclable packaging, general waste and materials needing specialist handling. Keeping those streams separate helps route materials appropriately.

  • Packaging recoveryPaper, cardboard, plastic and metal waste are separated for suitable recovery routes.
  • Specialist handlingHazardous waste is kept apart and handled through licensed providers.
  • Brand protectionBranded packaging waste is made unusable before disposal, helping protect your artwork and products from unauthorised reuse.

OUR DIRECTION ON ENERGY

Working towards generating our own power.

Our stated ambition is to generate the power our plants use by 2030. This remains a target, rather than an achievement.

For a supplier assessment or environmental questionnaire, contact us for the current position at the production site relevant to your project.

A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

Small decisions need the whole team.

Environmental awareness and waste handling are included in our staff training. Clear instructions help colleagues understand where materials go and how everyday handling affects the wider operation.

Our environmental policy also commits us to using resources efficiently and working with suppliers, customers and the organisations around our sites.

YOUR QUESTIONS

A clearer conversation, from the start.

Can you support a PPWR packaging review?

Yes. Share your product, packaging format, destination Member States and launch plans. We can coordinate the available material specifications and supplier information, and discuss the documentation and responsibilities relevant to the chosen pack.

Can you offer recyclable packaging?

The options depend on your product, the material structure and the recycling systems in the destination market. Tell us where you plan to sell, and we can review suitable options and supporting material information with you.

Can you support our environmental supplier questionnaire?

Yes. Send your questionnaire, product details and proposed manufacturing site if known. Our team can coordinate the relevant site and packaging information for your assessment.

Can we make an environmental claim on our packaging?

We can help review the proposed wording against the selected material and supplier information. Claims should relate to the actual pack and the market where it will be sold.
